3 Simple Tips For Starting Your Own Podcast

January 22, 2021 - 4 minutes read - Contributed Posts, Podcast

Podcasts are everywhere these days. In fact, there are currently over 850,000 active podcasts you can listen to right now. And yet, the market isn’t yet saturated. Why? Because there are endless subjects to talk about and interesting things to say.

Podcasts have become increasingly popular in recent years because they allow people to really connect. Businesses and brands have started to use them as a way to “humanize” themselves with their audience, and it works wonderfully.

While we’ve been featured on podcasts before, it’s not the same as starting your own show. Whether you own your own business that you’re trying to market or you actually want your podcast to be your business, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

With that in mind, let’s look at three simple tips you can use to get started, even if you don’t have any podcasting experience.

1. Choose a Unique Topic

Again, with hundreds of thousands of podcasts already out there, there is still room for more. But, that all depends on you choosing the right topic. No one wants to listen to the same thing they could find on a dozen other podcasts.

So, if you’re going to choose to broadcast, make sure you have a unique approach, a theme that will keep people interested, and content that will really spark conversations. The right topic can make all the difference in the world when it comes to the success of your show.

2. Look the Part

It’s very easy to create a mid-quality podcast with apps like Anchor and its competitors. Essentially, you can record from your phone, upload a picture from your camera roll, and your podcast will be out in the world in a matter of minutes.

But, if you really want your podcast to be taken seriously, think of it as a business. Make sure you have a professional logo or design and look for the best podcast microphone so you sound as professional as you look. If you’re going to do things the right way, it’s important to never cut corners.

3. Choose a Co-Host

This is an optional tip, but it’s something you should seriously consider. Podcasts are about conversations, especially if they’re long. If you’re considering a 5-minute show that gives people fast news, tips, or updates about something, a co-host likely isn’t necessary. But, if you’re planning on producing hour-long shows with a very specific topic in mind, having someone else on board with you can make a big difference.

A co-host will bring more energy to your broadcast, and it will help listeners to feel more like they are a part of the conversation, too.

In choosing a co-host, make sure to pick someone you’re comfortable talking with, especially someone that likes to chat and can provide their own opinions and insight.

It doesn’t have to be difficult to start a podcast. If you’re willing to put in the time, energy, and do a bit of financial investing into the right equipment, your idea can get off the ground quickly and people all over the world will be listening to your show.
